The Grosvenor House Antiques Fair : London : 1938

 

 The Antique Dealers' Fair and Exhibition held at Grosvenor House in London's Park Lane in 1934 was the world's very first antiques fair and has from it's inception remained a showcase for the finest Works of Art and Antiques which the Trade has to offer. Established by a nucleus of dealers under the auspices of The British Antique Dealers Association, which had been founded in 1918 with broadly similar aims, and under the patronage of H.M.Queen Mary, herself an avid collector; the primary object of the fair was to provide a showcase for the Trade and to stimulate public interest in antiques during the depths of the Great Depression. This scarce copy of the catalog produced in 1938 to accompany the fifth fair in the series is offered in good clean condition, complete with fine black and white illustrations throughout and with only a minor tear to the base of the spine cover.
