Beautifully illustrated in color and black and white, this book traces the history of the company from the middle of the 18th century and tells how Jasper, Black Basalte, Queensware and many other Wedgwood products came into existence, including the dinner and dessert service of nearly 1,000 pieces made for Catharine the Great, Empress of Russia. This fascinating book describes, in an easy to read manner, the many problems and pitfalls which face the novice; and to strengthen his points, the author includes copious illustrations of interesting pieces. His method of analysing the value of pieces is excellent and cannot but fail to leave the novice with a much clearer understanding of the complex factors which go to make up the assessment of quality of a piece of silver.
