Antique Victorian Tunbridgeware Folding Cribbage Box

                 View Other Images

An attractive Late 19th Century Antique Victorian Tunbridgeware Folding Cribbage Box. The sides plain, the interior re-lined, the top decorated with marquetry cabbage roses set within the double rows of holes made to take the ivory or bone pegs used for keeping the score. In the absence of such pegs, ordinary safety matches were, and indeed still are, used for this purpose. In the English Midlands, Cribbage, or Crib, as it is generally known, remains a popular card game to this day, with competitive leagues and friendly matches taking place between teams of players from rival pubs. Height : 2.00 inches : Width : 5.00 inches : Depth : 3.00 inches : Year : Circa 1895 : Ref. ZAVTCB. $425.00.  *** INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING WITHIN U.K. ***

Antique Victorian  Papier Mache Card Basket

          View Other Images

This lovely Mid 19th Century Antique Victorian Papier Mache Card Basket bears no Maker's label, but was probably made in Wolverhampton, the center of the papier mache industry in early Victorian England. Depicting a couple in the romantic setting of an abbey ruin set amongst trees, it retains it's original, softly painted decoration. Inlaid with shell pearl, this delightful scene is set within a border of gilded boughs bearing pearl shell blossoms. Original foliate ormolu handle. The whole in fine, unrestored condition. Very faint, but sadly illegible traces of what may have been an impressed Maker's or Retailer's mark to the underside of the basket. Width : 11.50 inches : Depth : 9.50 inches : Year : Circa 1845 : Ref. ZAVCMPB. $1695.00. *** INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING WITHIN U.K. ***

Antique Embossed Brown Leather Covered Green Glass Flask

An interesting antique brown leather covered green glass flask, embossed on all sides with blind stamped and gilded designs, the gilding now somewhat faded although still clearly visible. The neck bound around with a leather thong, the obverse mounted with a gilded heraldic device in the form of an eagle rampant upon a bundle of arrows. { Since there would appear to be no axe present, we have resisted the temptation to refer to this element of the design as fasces. } The cork stopper wholly leather covered. Purchased in Spain and believed to be Spanish, 19th Century. Height : 11.75 inches : Width : 5.00 inches : Depth : 2.25 inches. Ref. ZALCGGF. $225.00. *** INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING WITHIN U.K. ******
