The mahogany case inlaid with boxwood stringing, the dials silvered, the swan neck scrolled pediment with vase finial and inlaid with turned ivory buttons, the setting wheel of turned ivory. The five glasses comprising, Hygrometer, Thermometer, Convex Mirror, 8 inch diameter Barometer, and Spirit Level. The whole offered in excellent condition, having recently been fully restored and serviced in the workshop of leading BAFRA Member, Richard Higgins. Nicholas Goodison in his \"English Barometers 1680 - 1860\", { A.C.C. Woodbridge ~ 1977 } lists Joseph Somalvico as flourishing from 1833 - 1860 at 37 Charles Street and at 2 Hatton Garden from 1839 - 1860. Noting that \"Under his direction, the family firm achieved a prominent position\", he adds that the firm returned to 16 Charles Street in 1869.
