A lovely Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Papier-mâché Plate by Jennens and Bettridge, who, having acquired Henry Clay's Birmingham manufactory in 1816, went on to become the most famous partnership in the papier-mâché industry, flourishing until 1864. The floral decoration of this piece is composed of inlaid abalone shell pearl heightened with gilding, whilst the reverse is impress marked, "JENNENS & BETTRIDGE'S PATENT PEARL". The piece has at some time been given a protective coat of clear varnish.
