A fine, clean First Edition copy of "Art Deco Style", by Bevis Hillier & Stephen Escritt, published by Phaidon Press of London in 1997. Art Deco was the dominant style of the later 1920's and 1930's. Taking it's name from the "Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes", held in Paris in 1925, it rapidly became a worldwide phenomenon, only to be eclipsed by the austerity of the Second World War. Bevis Hillier, who wrote the pioneering book "Art Deco of the 20's and 30's" in 1968, was largely responsible for reviving interest in the style, co-curating "The World of Art Deco" exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 1971. His collaborator in this fine academic work, Stephen Escritt, is a specialist in twentieth-century interior design and is a research consultant for leading international antique dealer Carlton Hobbs.
