A large and really lovely Early Nineteenth Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Tureen and Cover by John Rogers & Son of Dale Hall, Longport, Staffordshire { 1814 - 1836 }, printed in a medium blue palette with the "Fallow Deer" pattern, the interior decorated with a variant of the usual scene. The tureen with deep footrim, the underside with impressed Maker's mark, viz. ROGERS together with a large impressed upper case letter C. Most attractive Recumbent Lion finial to the cover, with complementary Lion mask handles to the tureen. Coysh and Henrywood note, in their "Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 - 1880", that this pattern name was not titled as such by Rogers, but appears on later 19th Century reproductions made by Wedgwood which are clearly marked as such, and has thus come to be applied to Rogers' product.
