Description

A good matching Pair of Antique English Georgian Pewter Mugs by James Yates of Birmingham, { c. 1800 - 1840 }, Cotterell O.P. 5338, from the Royal Inn, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, the smaller, of "Pint" capacity, the larger holding one "Quart". The body of the "Pint" mug stamped, JAMES YATES, PINT, together with Victorian and other Weights and Measures Inspectors' stamps, and engraved, "ROYAL INN HANLEY above the device of a "Staffordshire Knot", below which is the partly illegible name of the sometime Landlord, James *****. The base of the interior of this mug also bearing a further stamp of a crown below the numeral 8. The body of the "Quart" mug similarly stamped with Maker's mark, Weights and Measures Inspectors' stamps and engraved in like manner.
