A Shropshire Lad and his Lass, { With apologies to A.E. Housman ! }. A fine, large, and imposing Pair of Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian "Jackfield" Pottery "Comforter" Spaniels ~ H 2416 / H 2417. At 34.30 cm. / 13.50 inches tall, these are the largest of the six sizes that were normally manufactured. The bodies of local red Shropshire clay covered in a lustrous black glaze, the gilded decoration, so often rubbed and worn, in excellent order. Unmarked as one would expect, and generically classified as Staffordshire, this regardless of the fact that they were actually produced in Shropshire.
