Of Welsh interest ~ A rarely encountered Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure depicting "Two Welsh Farmers' Wives at Market" ~ H a2209, a pair to H 2208, another equally hard to find piece. The two ladies stand together, the one on the left holding a basket of vegetables in her right hand, wearing a bonnet, long cloak, blouse, and a skirt with a striped apron. Her companion who bears a basket of eggs on her right arm, wears a shawl, long dress, striped apron and a hat upon which is balanced a pail. The original source for this figure is a print of Welsh National Costumes, a copy of which is held in the collection of the National Museum of Wales.
