A rare example in superb condition of a Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Tunbridge Ware Writing Slope by Alfred Davies Talbot { b. 1813 }, whose business "Talbot's Tunbridge Ware Manufactory", was situated in Chapel Place, Tunbridge Wells, just across the road from The Pantiles, or The Parade as it was then known, from Circa 1844 until 1858. Offered here in fully restored condition, the internal lift-out tray has replacement tapes and has been re-lined to match the original paper. The period key, whilst not original, does turn the wards of the lock, which itself is in working order. The piece is otherwise in wholly original condition, and whilst bearing no Maker's label, retains the tartan base paper peculiar to this particular maker. For a comparable example of Talbot's work, see Brian Austen, "Tunbridge Ware and related European Decorative Woodwares - Colour Plate 19".
