Description

A good Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Brass "Bottle" Chimney Spit Jack by George Salter & Co., complete with it's pendant wrought iron plate with it's full complement of rings. The escutcheon plate stamped, SALTER'S ECONOMICAL WARRANTED. A hard to find decorative period accessory for the inglenook chimney or country kitchen. Spit jacks, hung in the chimney and were used to ensure that the meat, which hung from the hooks suspended from the iron plate was evenly cooked. Having been wound up, the mechanism slowly unwound, turning the jack and thus the meat over the fire.
