Description

A good Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Spode Blue and White Transfer "Bridge of Lucano" Pattern Pottery sauce tureen stand, printed in a medium blue palette with a view of the Bridge of Lucano, near Tivoli to the East of Rome. The tower is the tomb of Plautius Lucanus, and the source print is probably either an undated engraving by A.H. Payne after a painting by H. Bibby, { Coysh & Henrywood ~ Volume I of "The Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 - 1880" }, or an engraving by George Hackert, ~ { Drakard and Holdway ~ "Spode Transfer Printed Ware 1784 - 1833" }. The reverse with impressed Upper Case SPODE 39 mark together with underglaze blue printed Upper Case SPODE mark and a printed Upper Case letter B.
