An attractive Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Toilet Basin, printed in a pale blue palette with a sylvan scene, this titled "Venture" pattern, by Hancock, Whittingham & Co. of Swan Bank Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire, { 1863 - 1872 }. The interior of the basin with three clear stilt marks, the underside with printed title, VENTURE, within a scrolled cartouche and Maker's Mark, viz. H.W. & Co. , plus three clear stilt marks. A rarely encountered pattern, which at the moment, does not appear to feature in Coysh & Henrywood's Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery, but which is however recorded in the database of the Transferware Collectors' Club as having been produced by Ralph Hammersley of Tunstall and Burslem, Staffordshire, a contemporary of Hancock, Whittingham & Co.
