A large and most attractive Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Castle Clock Figure with applied fruits, foliage and two cherubs watching over the proceedings. This model not uncommon, but somewhat surprisingly not catalogued by Harding in "Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875". Staffordshire figures such as these were popular cottage ornaments throughout the 19th Century. Usually displayed upon the mantelpiece above the fireplace, they served to take the place of a working clock, the cost of which would have been beyond the reach of the poorer classes.
