A lovely Early 19th Century Antique Georgian Gaudy Welsh Ironstone Jug of panelled octagonal form, decorated in "Bethesda" pattern in an Imari palette of iron red and cobalt blue, the attractive green handle modelled as a serpent's tail. The underside impress marked "IRONSTONE CHINA", which would suggest an early date ~ Masons introduced their Patent Ironstone China in 1813, but, according to Geoffrey Godden, { Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares ~ A.C.C. Woodbridge 1980 }, within a few years, the description "Ironstone China" was taken up by other manufacturers, thus, while one might hazard a guess, it is not possible to identify the Maker of this piece with certainty.
