A magnificent Mid 20th Century Vintage Czech Amphora Porcelain Sculpture modelled as a "Camel and Mounted Rider", of imposing size and, other than the fabric rein, which has now perished and thus needs replacing, in fine original condition. The Amphora Porcelain Works existed from 1892 - 1945 in the Teplitz-Turn area of Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but since 1918, in Trnovany in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1892 under the style of RSt&K, by Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel, the son and sons-in-law respectively of Alfred Stellmacher, a long established manufacturer of ceramics in the area, and also employing his son-in-law Paul Dachsel, by the late 1880's, the firm having consistently marked pieces with the word Amphora became known by that name. Stellmacher left the undertaking in 1905, and Kessel left in 1910. As the partnership changed, the company became known by different names, but the pieces were always known as Amphora porcelain, the concern eventually being nationalised in 1945.
