Description

A good clean First Edition copy of "Beardsley", by Brian Reade, formerly the personal copy of Art Historian and Director of the National Gallery, the late Sir Michael Levey { 1927 - 2008 }, published by Studio Vista of London in 1967. With an introduction by John Rothenstein, this scarce volume was inspired by and issued following the retrospective exhibition of the artist's work held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1966 and a similar one held at the Gallery of Modern Art, New York. The author, regarded as the leading authority on the subject, has here chosen about 500 examples of Aubrey Beardsley's art, many of which drawings have never previously been published. Hard covers, large format, 372 pages, original dust jacket { now rather scruffy }.
