A fine and attractive Early 20th Century Vintage Royal Doulton English Porcelain Figurine, "Kate Hardcastle" ~ HN 1861, the heroine of Oliver Goldsmith's comedy, "She Stoops to Conquer, decorated in a red and blue colourway, designed by leading Doulton artist, Leslie Harradine , and issued from 1938 to 1949. The underside fully marked in green with the Royal Doulton printed backstamp as used from 1932, this together with the numeral 9, indicating that this figurine was produced in 1936, "Kate Hardcastle", Rd. No. 803645, { for 1935 }, HN 1861 in script, impressed Date Code 31036 , and indistinct impressed Model Number. N.B. :- Dunting hairline to the base of this piece, these occur inside the kiln during the production process, usually after firing, and are caused by cooling too rapidly. This could explain why this piece, although produced in 1936, was not released until 1938.
