This spirited Mid 20th Century Vintage Royal Doulton English Porcelain Character Figurine, "The Fiddler" ~ HN 2171 was designed by leading Doulton artist Mary Nicoll, and was issued from 1956 to 1962. Mary came from Devon, and is particularly admired for her models of seafaring characters, of which this is a good example, the Fiddler appearing to dance a hornpipe as he plays.The underside fully marked in black with the Royal Doulton printed backstamp of the period, the title, "The Fiddler", H.N. 2171, COPR. 1955., DOULTON & CO LIMITED., Rd. No., 878040, { for 1955 }, Rd. No. 34544, Rd. No. 7307, and Rd. No. 445/55, impressed Model Number and numeral 9 plus green painted 7, Painter's Monogram SG, for Stewart Griffin, listed as working at Doulton 1951 to 1962 and 1970 to 1978.
