A large and imposing Pair of Mid / Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figures of Goatherds, the pair illustrated "in the white", the man in colour, in the Second Addendum to Harding's "Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875, where they are catalogued as Figs. 2084C and 2084D. A pair not often encountered, the man wears a flat cap, open necked shirt with tie, jacket, and knee-breeches tied at the waist with a scarf. He stands holding a large pot of flowers with his left hand that rests upon a rock-work pillar. His right hand holds a goat which stands upon it's hind legs at his side, it's fore-hooves resting upon his chest. His companion wears a head-dress, bodice and long skirt with an apron. She holds a pot of flowers in her left hand while her right is around a goat which stands upon it's hind legs with it's fore-hooves resting upon her waist.
