A diminutive but quite delightful Pair of Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figures of "Children on Goats", well modelled and attractively decorated in the typical Staffordshire palette of the period. The girl and boy each seated side-saddle upon the patient animals which stand upon gilt lined oval bases. Widely regarded as intended to represent the Princess Royal and the Prince of Wales, which may indeed be the case, this was a popular theme and a number of variants were produced over the years in a variety of sizes. cf. Harding, "Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875" ~ Figs. 598 / 599 and Figs. 2361 / 2362.
