A most attractive Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Leather Martingale carrying four horse-brasses, viz. a Bull, a Clairseach or Irish Harp, a Rearing Horse, and an Emblem of Union, comprising Thistle, Rose and Shamrock; the reverse of each brass stamped ENGLAND. Difficult today to imagine the importance of the horse in bygone days, prior to the arrival of the internal combustion engine; and the pride which Farmers, Carters, and others took in dressing these much valued animals which played such an important role in their lives.
