Of Yorkshire interest ~ An interesting framed Pair of Mid 19th Century Antique Victorian woven silk bookmarkers, here attributed to Thomas Stevens of Coventry who, at a time of disastrous recession in the traditional silk ribbon industry, succeeded in adapting the Jacquard loom to produce small multi-coloured silk pictures of infinite variety, selling his first woven silk bookmarker in 1862. The two examples here offered were clearly framed many years ago and thus remain in excellent condition. The smaller of the two decorated with a simple meditative verse , "Forget Me Not", whilst the larger is essentially a souvenir of the City of York, bearing illustrations of York Minster, His Grace the Archbishop of York and St. Mary's Abbey.
