This lovely Late 20th Century English Porcelain Cake or Cheese Stand, with gilded border, bears all of the hallmarks of Reg Johnson's multi-faceted talent, not only as designer, but also as potter and painter. The sylvan scene here depicted, superbly painted with a group of Highland Sheep at ease beside a burn, offers the perfect introduction to the works of this talented Staffordshire artist, examples of whose work may now be viewed at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. This example signed on the obverse, Reginald Johnson 88, and on the reverse, ORIGINAL PAINTING by Reginald Johnson Studio Potter 1988.
