A fine Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Ceramic Plaque, probably Copeland, decorated with a woodland scene, believed to depict the "Fairy Glen ~ Betws-y-Coed",and signed by William Yale of Stoke, Staffordshire. Affixed to the reverse, a later paper label, which reads, "William Yale, Born in Newport, Shropshire in 1843 ~ Employed by Copeland factory from 1869 to 1885". William { Billy } Yale was born in Newport, Shropshire in 1843, and was employed by Copeland from circa 1869 to 1883, where he was known for painting marine views and winter scenes. After leaving Copeland, he set up his own studio in Liverpool Road, Stoke-on-Trent, advertising himself as a Tile and Slab decorator. During this time, he began decorating sagger ware plaques bought in from other potteries which he then fired in a kiln attached to his premises. This fine example of his work is offered here mounted in a later bullnose giltwood frame.
