A most attractive Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Pastille Burner, modelled as a rustic "cottage orné". Prior to the introduction of modern sanitation systems, these delightful ornaments, now widely sought after by collectors, performed a useful, indeed most valuable function, in that a perfumed cachou having been lit and placed inside the cottage, the resultant incense served to freshen and sweeten the air in the room.
