Another lovely Early 19th Century Antique Georgian Pottery "Hydra" jug of octagonal form, the shape first introduced by Mason's, { who gave the shape it's name }, earlier in the century and subsequently widely copied by rival potters. This one decorated in an "Imari" pattern with tendrils and peonies in a palette of iron red and cobalt blue. A simple piece imbued with "old fashioned" charm. No Maker's mark but the base impressed IRONSTONE CHINA together with the Painter's monogram B in red. Just Love the little ring of green felt pads which clearly have at some time been added to prevent the jug scratching the surface of a piece of furniture !
