Description

A rare Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Copper Quart Measure of uncommon form, bearing upon the neck the Excise Stamp of a Liver Bird, for the City of Liverpool. The Weights and Measures Acts of 1824 and 1825 only slowly took effect outside of the main commercial centres of the United Kingdom. Liverpool however, being the country's leading seaport stood in the vanguard of their implementation, and this scarce example of a quart measure is as fine an example of the period as one is ever likely to find. For a comparable piece, see Peter Hornsby, "Collecting Antique Copper and Brass", Page 199, Moorland Publishing, Ashbourne, 1989.
