A really fine and attractive Late 19th Century Antique English / Scottish Victorian Oil Lamp of unusual form, by Young's of Glasgow and Birmingham, displaying distinct Arts and Crafts influence. The reeded column buttressed by three scrolling supports, and rising from a well designed beaded round brass base, mounted upon three decorative feet. The integral iron baseplate with impressed number 2011. The well moulded yellow / green font of uncommon design carrying a good clean burner with wick winder buttons each marked, YOUNG'S SCREW No. 1. James Young, a Scottish chemist, started the first plant to make paraffin { kerosene } from shale for oil lamps in Britain in 1848.The whole ensemble topped off with a lovely globe shade of the period, with delicate floral etching, the glass shading from clear to green. Replacement clear glass chimney, as one would expect.
