Description

A good Early 19th Century Antique English Victorian Pewter Brass Banded Grain Measure of baluster form and Gill capacity, the body stamped GILL, the brass band with Late 19th Century Weights and Measures Inspection stamp. These measures were intended to be used for dry goods, seeds, grains and so forth. Once filled, a stick would then be drawn across the top to skim off any excess content, the brass band around the rim protecting the softer pewter body from damage. The foot of this piece now somewhat mis-shapen, adding, if anything to it's period charm.
