A fine Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Pewter Pint Tavern Jug, the body stamped PINT, and engraved in script, "C. Knight Alma Tavern Colchester", this within a decorative panel, together with Victorian Excise Inspector's Stamp, VR 207 below a crown, and what appears to be a Maker's Mark, also the interior of the base with Maker's Touch. Following the success of the British and French forces at the Battle of Alma on 20 September 1854, the first major engagement of the Crimean War, this became a popular name for taverns up and down the land.
