A rather appealing Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure of a Prancing Zebra, the lively creature rearing against a rocky green background. Few potters of this period would ever have set eyes upon a zebra in the flesh, so it is hardly a matter of surprise that these figures often look rather more like horses than they do their African cousins. This example is illustrated here in Figures 7 and 8 alongside Our Stock Ref. AEVSPFZ-128, which equine model offers a rather less accurate representation of the animal. That said, from a decorative point of view, together the two make a most attractive "harlequin" pair. N.B. :- Condition :- Faint old 2.00 cm. hairline along back ~
