A rare find indeed ! Not only is this lovely Early 19th Century Antique English Mason's Ironstone Mug glazed in that scarce and desirable deep blue known as Mazarine, the colour of the wings of the Mazarine Blue butterfly, but the shape of the piece is described as rare, { cf. Plate 249 }, by Geoffrey Godden in his "Guide to Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares", long regarded as the standard work of reference on the subject. The base fully impress marked MASONS PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA, the body decorated with gilt foliage and butterflies, the gilded borders and handle now understandably a little rubbed after 200 years. A museum quality item for the discerning Collector.
