Description

A highly decorative Late 19th Century French Lille Faience Oval Plaque with repoussé mouldings in the rococo manner, heightened with gilding, and depicting Plate two from Hogarth’s set of eight engravings , “A Rake’s Progress”, the set based on pre-existing paintings by the printmaker, painted in 1734 and now in Sir John Soane’s Museum, London, the lively proceedings set within a gilded border. Signed on the obverse, H******, the reverse with Maker’s Mark in red , viz. LILLE 1767 ~ Pierced for wall hanging.
