A most unusual and interesting Mid / Late 19th Century Antique Swiss Pewter Miniature Cauldron, complete with its original swing handle, believed by the vendor from whom it was purchased to have belonged to his Swiss Grand-parents and thus likely to have originated in Switzerland. Of uncertain purpose, but possibly ecclesiastical in origin, the piece bears the arms of the City of Geneva, which include the Latin phrase POST TENEBRAS LUX { Light after Darkness }, which phrase came to be adopted as the Calvinist motto, and was subsequently adopted as the motto of the entire Protestant Reformation.
