The author, known as "Geoffrey Godden Chinaman", from his telegraphic address, "Godden Chinaman Worthing", is without doubt regarded as one of the most knowledgeable experts ever to have studied the subject of British ceramics and his written oeuvre has been prodigious. This lavish encyclopaedia contains over six hundred and fifty plates - sixteen pages of them in full colour - illustrating more than a thousand documentary specimens of marked British pottery and porcelain of the period from 1700 to 1900.
