A scarce Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Copper Spirit Measure of Four Gallon capacity, the body engraved Hy.TIMMS 4 GALLs., and bearing various Excise Stamps, including two fine Victorian Liver Bird marks for the Borough of Liverpool. As one might expect, this fine antique piece shows some wear and tear from long hard usage, but nothing that detracts from it's period character. Henry Timms, Spirit Merchant, appears in Gore's Liverpool Directory for the year 1827, where he is listed as being in business at 12, Lime Street. The Poll Book for the Borough of Liverpool was one of many produced throughout the country in an apparent act of celebration of the emancipation brought about by the passing of the Reform Act of 1832. This shows that Henry Timms, who had by then moved to premises in Strand Street, had voted in favour of the two liberal reformers, William Ewart and Thomas Thornely, the former being elected to Parliament.
