A fine and rare Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Plate, of American interest, by James and Ralph Clews of Cobridge, Staffordshire { 1818 - 1834 }. Decorated in a dark blue palette with a view of "The Landing of Gen. La Fayette at Castle Garden New York on 16th August 1824", the reverse with good clear stilt marks and impressed Maker's mark, viz. "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE", this within a ribbon cartouche surrounding a crown. The pattern illustrated on a platter by Moore ~ The Old China Book ~ Tudor Publishing ~ New York ~ 1903 / 1946 ~ Fig. 28 and similarly by Camehl ~ The Blue China Book ~ Tudor Publishing ~ New York ~ 1948, where Chapter XIII, { Pages 192 - 212 } is devoted to this historic visit.
