A lovely Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Indented Pottery Plate in the "Biddulf Castle" pattern, from the "Antique Scenery" series, here attributed to Zacharia Boyle of Hanley, Staffordshire, { 1823 - 1830 }. This on the basis of the attribution made by Dick Henrywood in his article, "Transferware Source Prints", published in Antique Collecting magazine, Vol. 45, No. 6, published in November 2010, in which is illustrated a soup tureen from the same series, depicting Caister Castle, Norfolk, { Page 16, Fig. 4 }, which the author attributes to that firm. The piece here illustrated clearly bears the same pattern border as that depicted on the aforementioned tureen, and it is now accepted that it was produced by the same maker, this particular example being illustrated on Page 23 of Henrywood's "The Transferware Recorder 1 ~ Selected British Views", published by Reynardine Publishing in 2013. Printed in a medium blue palette, the scene which apparently depicts the ruins of a medieval castle, in fact depicts not a castle, but Biddulph Hall, with figures and foliage in the foreground, all set within an attractive floral border. The reverse with underglaze blue printed title, "ANTIQUE SCENERY BIDDULF CASTLE STAFFORDSHIRE", this within a garter cartouche surmounted by a crown.
