A fine Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer "Bridge of Lucano Italy" Pattern Pottery Plate, printed in a medium blue palette with a view of the Bridge of Lucano, near Tivoli to the East of Rome. The tower is the tomb of Plautius Lucanus, and the source print is probably either an undated engraving by A.H. Payne after a painting by H. Bibby, { Coysh & Henrywood ~ Volume I of "The Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 - 1880" }, or an engraving by George Hackert, ~ { Drakard and Holdway ~ "Spode Transfer Printed Ware 1784 - 1833" }. More often than not encountered as a Spode product, this example, from an as yet unidentified maker bears on the reverse the underglaze blue printed title BRIDGE OF LUCANO ITALY below a crown, this within a leafy cartouche, below which are the words SEMI CHINA together with the blue printed numeral 1.
