Of Indian interest ~ A fine and scarce Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Serving Dish / Platter depicting "Part of the City of Moorshedabad", { Sack 5-6 }, the ancient capital of Bengal. From the Parrot Border series, the maker of which so far remains unidentified, although John and William Ridgway, c. 1814 - 1830 have on good authority been suggested, the source print for this scene was taken from Charles Ramus Forrest's "A Picturesque Tour along the Rivers Ganges and Jumna in India", published in 1824 by Rudolph Ackermann of London. This rare find is fully marked on the reverse with the title "Part of the City of Moorshedabad", this written in underglaze blue script on a rock set within a foliate cartouche, this together with the impressed numeral 16. One tiny area a paint loss of about 1/8th of an inch at 6.00 o'clock where one of the stilts would have stood during the firing of the piece may clearly be inspected in Image No. 2. Ref.
