A most attractive Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transferware Pearlware Soup Plate by John Davenport of Longport, one of three patterns presently available ex stock from this difficult to find series, to which the title "Rustic Scenes" has been allotted by Coysh and Henrywood in their "Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 - 1880". This one, known as "Returning Home", depicts an extensive set of farm buildings with a large tree to the left and a man and child in the foreground, the scene set within the floral border found throughout the series. Printed in a medium blue, and beautifully finished in Davenport's usual high quality glaze, the reverse with the early impressed lower case Maker's mark, viz, Davenport above an anchor.
