A rare and lovely Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer "Summerhouse on Rock" Pattern Pottery Shallow Dish / Plate, depicting an oriental couple in conversation beneath a parasol held by a young attendant, this within a garden dominated by a pagoda-like structure, the overall scene filled with "Chinoiserie" motifs. Framing this delightful picture is a most unusual geometric border of scrolls and heart-shaped motifs, which we have not encountered before, but which bears comparison with that illustrated on a plate by Wood & Challinor of Tunstall, { 1828 - 1843 }, featured in Case 36 / 9 of the "True Blue" exhibition held at The Wedgwood Museum in 1998. As this piece is unmarked however, we have as yet been unable to identify the Maker. Superb quality, the body with a blue tinge, deep footrim and clear stilt marks, the reverse with the faintest of incipient hairlines at the footrim, which does not however penetrate the piece.
