A good Second Period Early 20th Century Antique W.H. Goss Model of the Hythe Cromwellian Mortar, bearing the arms of Whitgift School, the base inscribed "MODEL OF CROMWELLIAN MORTAR FOUND AT HYTHE RD NO * 390790", with astrological sign for Luna painted in blue, impressed Maker's Mark, W H GOSS, and fully marked in black with the Goshawk. Catalogued as Model No.153 in the A.C.C.'s "Price Guide to the Models of W.H. Goss", by Roland Ward, published in 1975.
Height ~ 38mm ~ Year ~ Circa 1912 ~ N.B. According to the standard reference books, { by both Roland Ward and Nicholas Pine }, the correct Registered Number for this model is 590790, indicating that the shape was registered in 1911. It would appear therefore that the Rd. No. printed on the base of this piece may be incorrect.
