A good Second Period Late 19th Century { ? }, Antique English W.H. Goss Porcelain Model of the Reading { Silchester } Urn, bearing the arms of Paignton, the base inscribed, "MODEL OF ROMAN URN FROM SILCHESTER IN READING MUSEUM Reg. No. 77966", { for 1887 }, and fully marked in black with the Goshawk. This piece is somewhat of a puzzle, in that, according to Roland Ward, the correct Registration Number should in fact be 573577, dating the registration of the shape to the year 1911, although this does not always appear on the model. Also, the typeface of the Reg. No. stamp on this piece is in Times New Roman, which is also unusual. As the piece is not worth faking, this represents something of a mystery. Feedback / comment on this discrepancy most welcome. Catalogued as Model No. 240 in the A.C.C.'s "Price Guide to the Models of W.H. Goss", by Roland Ward, published in 1975.
