A good Second Period Early 20th Century Antique Edwardian W.H. Goss Model of the Reading { Silchester } Urn, decorated with a titled sepia print depicting ST ANN'S LIGHTHOUSE, DALE, MILFORD HAVEN. This lighthouse is intended to guide ships around a number of rocky shoals that cause a hazard to shipping entering the Haven as well as Crow's Rock. The present lighthouse was completed in 1841, { at which time it was known as "St. Ann's Low Light" }, and was commissioned by John Knott, Senior Lighthouse Keeper with Trinity House. The first lighthouse on this site was built in 1714. The present operational tower is 13 metres in height { 42.70 feet }, and is painted white. From it, you can easily see Skokholm Lighthouse on the small island of Skokholm, five miles to the West. The underside of the piece is inscribed, MODEL OF ROMAN URN FROM SILCHESTER IN READING MUSEUM and fully marked in black with the Goshawk. Catalogued as Model No. 240 in the A.C.C.'s "Price Guide to the Models of W.H. Goss" by Roland Ward, published in 1975.
