Description

A highly decorative Pair of Late 19th Century Antique "Dresden" Porcelain Figurines of a Gallant and his Lady, perhaps participants in "Un ballo in maschera", since while she coyly holds up a mask in her left hand, he points, as if to say, "Ah, Yes, I recognise you behind your disguise". The underside of each piece with blue crossed swords mark. Perhaps German, from one of the many imitators of Meissen to be found in Saxony during the latter part of the 19th Century, or, equally possible, French, produced in the atelier of that Master Copyist, Edmé Sampson of Paris. Either way, a beautiful pair, softly coloured, in fine condition, and certain to please.
