Description

A fine Pair of Early 18th Century Antique English Georgian "Brass" Candlesticks of a group described by Ronald Michaelis on Page 116 of "Old Domestic Base-Metal Candlesticks", { A.C.C., Woodbridge, 1978 } as "none too prolific" ! Drawing upon earlier styles, the comparable candlesticks there illustrated in Figure 170 are discussed in detail by the author, long regarded as the leading authority on the subject. The lovely soft coppery colour of this pair, would suggest either that the brass from which they are formed has a higher than usual copper content, or that in fact, rather than brass, they are perhaps made of bell metal, a form of bronze, but with a higher tin content, the former being an alloy of copper and zinc, the latter of copper and tin. Whichever may be the case, they really are a most beautiful pair.

Height ~ 22.90 cm. / 9.00 inches ~ Width ~ 9.80 cm. / 3.85 inches ~ Depth ~ 9.80 cm. / 3.85 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1725.
