Description

An attractive Pair of Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Brass Candlesticks of documentary interest, each being stamped HARRISON PATENT. William Harrison and Son, Brassfounders, are listed in The New Triennial Directory for Birmingham of 1818 as being in business in Park Street of that city. Very few antique candlesticks carry a Maker's Mark, the late Ronald Michaelis, in his authoritative work, " Old Domestic Base Metal Candlesticks", suggesting perhaps only one in a thousand. This lovely old pair have clearly led a hard life, and have lost their sconces at some point along the way. That said, they ooze period charm, glowing with that deep patina only to be achieved by decades of hand polishing and remain perfectly practical for everyday use.
